Loved the characters in Joker..

Sweet Tooth loves the chase..love Greg's mum dragging him!!

Wonder if those men are based on anyone...it has a bit of a caricature.

You can't beat a bit of Reg Parlett joyful artwork at Christmas..

Nice cover by Mike Lacey..

I always like the painted bright colours they used...also a pun a panel..its fun to see Tom and Jerry from the USA playing football (soccer in USA).

these are from TV Comic pages are from TV Comic Holiday Special 1979.
Nice story :) ..The title panel looks like its been redrawn. It must be a reprint when better paper was used in the original comic so the grey washes were then a lot clearer than here...
Where human bear meets a real bear cub!

Now to Krazy comic 1976-77

Based on Going Straight when he comes out of Prison. You really have to know the telly of the 70's to work out what the characters and programs are. As they are not named sometimes..

I don't know this detective program?

I can see Les Dawson..Ronnie Corbett...Mr Humphries..Larry Grayson...can you name the others..

Cheeky the first three stories from Krazy comics in October 1976.

One of the best Fleetway characters..he is up there with Frankie stein, Sweeny Toddler, Bumpkin Billionaires..Its fun seeing the first appearance I thought this can't be by Frank Mc Diarmid!
But its signed by him...it shows how these characters changed and adapted as Frank worked on this.

I like the cat nicking the milk!

Cheeky breaking the fourth wall is what made it special and always talking to the reader.

Paper tearing fun on other page...Cheeky say you'll get a clip round the ear! OW!
The Knock-knock door becomes free from this point on see number 3 story!!!

The Baker boy looked younger in those days...teacher had slightly different hair! the dandruff has started!!

A cover star in the making!

How to make a swiss roll...push it down a mountain slope!

This last ever Sparky book before it joined Topper book the next year...this had lots of reprints...But very welcome to see... there was one new element and is throughout the book Brainless. He is even on the cover drawn by John Geering.
This character who was never in the comic of Sparky which ended in 1977 is brand new for this book. He has the look of Frank Spencer about him! I love this character as a kid and used to draw my own cartoon version of a cowboy with sleeves too long and hat large covering his eyes.

Quite a strong joke if you take it too serious today..

The beginning and end papers of the book.
love the background character John has drawn...

Whoopee!! 27th May 1978
The character didn't last very long...it sure gave readers a challenge.

The last one 1st Sept 1973
I love the writing on this last one...so clever...my kind of humour..I love him complaining its the last one!
The 70's Topper had some surreal writing and characters...

Brian Walker does a nice Pop, Dick and Harry. Also a funny story!

Not sure who drew this...I know Steve Bright did later on..
Free gifts means new readers so comic page characters are reintroduced.

Barrie's work is always good fun in this era..Cuddles and Dimples on holiday!
I bet Barrie loved drawing this!

 I'm in love with Marina!

John Geering
The pages are lot more focussed on the characters and less detailed backgrounds...not so keen..
 Gordon Bell
Just like Young Sid the page has a small strip on the page..

I like comic characters enjoying the free gift from the comic..

Has you can see later on he looses his British flag logo from jumper and sheild and is replaced with a lightning bolt and his power is not Brit power But Silicon chip power!!! The character didn't last long...shame!
I won't speculate why the changes happened...I'll leave that to you...

The Stone men! from Easter island from The Sparky book 1977 .......They was right!!!!!!

The Sparky logo with the laughing faces don't work for me looks a bit rushed...though the hands holding up signs and the 5p hanging off the finger is fun..

I get the joke now he looks like an lion...GULP!
Its Glam rock era...
There is a joke about Gary Glitter on Pop Mad!!!

Its nicely done cartoons mixing with photos and some nice jokes...this feature didn't last long...shame has I like it..

The photos have come out pretty well...better when Wow comic when they did a similar thing with Star Turns with tv and pop photos and jokes in the 80's..

Just got an email saying some info on The Bananaman movie!

http://www.bananamanmovie.com/

The email didn't want to tell me his name or his role in the film..

SPOILER!

But he's got permission to tell me it will feature many cameos from DC Thomson comic characters including a funny moment with Mr Bubbles from Sparky comic. Lots of props and posters will have Bash Street kids reference. Also Billy the Cat and Katie will help and General Jumbo plus the Iron Fish! So a very different film and looks like it will be great fun.

Release date is probably next year early April.
He will email me soon to confirm that.

Nice Frank drew in Robert Nixon style for Buytonic Boy and Ian Knox style for Pongo..

Great shading of the cellar..
I like how the story continues throughout the comic...
