Drawings and paintings from last year..
Pet commission

The baby Elephant has been a big break through for me...instead of drawing quickly and with a tricky charcoal pencil I took my time over a few days...working out proportions more and using a black water colour pencil drawn on textured paper...this was drawn in October 2013 and at various Christmas fairs I sold 3 large prints and 10 small prints which was amazing! So now as you've seen with the other earlier post I'm using this type of pencil to get more detail and taking my time more...
I'm a character artist...capturing mood and expression.

Alan Ryan's new to The Beano with Smudge and Number 13!
Its great seeing his work and its good news for him he has two characters in The Beano.
I love the humour and some clever stuff.
Interesting these strips were both in the past drawn by John Geering!
Check out his webcomic he has also done.. (thanks Lew Stringer for the link!)

Buy The Beano this week and see many old characters are back...like Lew drawing Rasher the pig.

Gordon Bell 1934 - 2014
Blimey! It's another blog about comics!: Gordon Bell 1934 - 2014: Spoofer Mc.Graw. SPARKY 404 (Oct,14th 1972) Sad news just in that the cartoonist Gordon Bell suddenly passed away last week, on February 13th 2014 at the age of 79.
Love that last panel with all the cats ....the pups in snow is always fun..-There are many comic artists I love a lot...this is one of them...it has influanced my own cartooning...the expression...movement..keeping it simple..as a child I used to copy (not trace-!) the Pup Parade they were nice rounded shapes to draw and each character was different and unique...always fun Bones and the skull and crossbones blacking it out with a felt pen.
His art is a joy to look at and eagerly turned to in The Beano of the 70's and 80's Pup Parade..
See link to his name at my blog to see his many other strips he drew for The Beezer..Buster and Nipper ,The Dandy..etc..
My thoughts and prayers are with Gordon's family and friends at this sad time..Peter Gray
Thanks Cameron Clark for the message..
Sorry to say that Gordon passed away on Thursday 13th Feb. Fanatic that he was, he was working on new cartoons up until a few days before his death, and even managed a last cartoon while lying in bed a few hours before his death. He will be sorely missed.

Gordon's version of the Bash Street kids...
Frank Mc Diarmid drawing Ball Boy fun seeing Frank's style..
Lots of characters by Jimmy Glen..

*KAZOOP !!: A LOOK AT MONSTER FUN STRIPS: KID KONG see also the later Kid Kong by Rob Lee and his version of an origin!
Kid Kong in Buster was a one pager 17th Jan 1981...thought this page was funny so had to show it..
Then in 21st March 1981 it became two pages with a new origin based on the old...also Gran was brought back to her original self without glasses and hearing aid...which kind of works...
Rob Lee's art is nice to see and has a bit of Robert Nixon style about it..
Now go to the link to see Monster Fun's Kid Kong by the great Robert Nixon at Kazoop...
*KAZOOP !!: A LOOK AT MONSTER FUN STRIPS: KID KONG: As we know from the introductory three-pager, Kid Kong was ‘the biggest gorilla in the World and son of the famous King Kong’. ..

I love the ending of this strip..;0)
Mike could of if he wanted to work for DC Thomson..
Mike still drew very well indeed!

My new art...
Eastbourne pier...
Might do some more landscapes as they are popular...I like doing seasides!! The needles in Cornwall might be next to paint..
In art you can change the persepctive so for me the pier was important so its a lot bigger than it should be..

I always liked the Menace gang v's the Softy gang...
In the same issue the name Gnipper is mentioned...before there was a real Gnipper later on mid 80's...

Whoopee!! at Easter 1978!
A very unSweeny Toddler ending...well it is Easter!
Love Mike's drawings...
This appeared for a short time before Bookworm started..not sure if this is a reprint from Whizzer and chips or new for Whoopee!!
nothing to do with Easter But here it is by Ken Reid...good creepy bats!!
A very funny story...and a new Easter custom!!!
The newsagent man is not scared of them anymore!
Rolling eggs down a hill...when did it start?
A great poster by Terry Bave of the current Whoopee!! characters...
Hope you enjoyed your Easter!!

UPDATED!!!! A funny look at Beanotown The Beano Book 1974 by Robert Nixon

Recently Beanotown map was shown in the free giveaway Beano in the Mail on Sunday.
Heres the Beanotown drawn in great wonderful detail by Robert.
I like Dennis and Gnasher's house best!!
This picture inspired me as a kid to make my own Beanopoly (Monopoly) and making the cards. Great fun to do..
From the Daily Mail the free sample Beano ...the Beanotown was shown better in the 75th Beano.
Looking at this I don't think this is Robert Nixons work...
you can see traces of the 1974 version. The cage is not for Biffo this time (Biffo lives in a cave!) But Baby-Face..
Little Plum now lives in a wigwam in the distance...
Love the end pages at the back of the 1993 Beano book at night time..its all very well done..
Thanks TwoHeadedBoy for the reminder of this gem..

Gordon Bell's version of The Wild Rovers normally drawn by Ken H Harrison from Nutty comic 1982
There's less detail and less dogs..though great expressions..But its interesting to see...you can see Gordon preferred drawing dogs with short legs like in Pup Parade...and maybe he had to draw it fast for a deadline?
Ken sure does a lot of detail and more panels...they are both good in different ways...

I'm glad Jim saw my website and blog posts on his work and it was nice chatting by email to him...I love his work its so animated and full of action...also brilliant expressions...he has left an amazing amout of comic work to enjoy for all time...Thanks Jim...God bless your family and frineds at this sad time.
